Public Housing Extended To Non-Registered Beijing Residents

In response to skyrocketing real estate prices and a burgeoning city population, Beijing's municipal government in 2009 set out to construct 300,000 public housing units by 2015. Starting December 1, it will take its public housing project one step further, by allowing non-registered residents to obtain government-subsidized housing in the nation's capital.

Currently, citizens holding hukous, or residence permits, in places other than Beijing may not apply for public housing in the capital.
