The double status of soccer official Zhang Jianqiang—as both a state official and non-government director—has become a thorny issue for his corruption trial, which kicked off December 19.

Experts say Zhang's trial could potentially influence how future courts rule when it comes to individuals who commit crimes in both government and non-governmental capacities, China National Radio reported. Zhang faces 12 counts of accepting bribes as a government official, and one count of accepting bribes in a non-government position, totaling 2.73 million yuan.
