Eight Former Wukan Officials Detained

(Beijing) – Party disciplinary authorities in Wukan announced the detention of eight former officials on suspicion of charges including embezzling government funds, illegal land seizures and election fraud.

On April 20, the Lufeng Discipline Inspection Commission of Guangdong Province said a former Wukan party committee head and seven village committee members were put under "shuanggui," an extra-legal form of detention used under the internal Chinese Communist Party system.
