Those optimistic about economic growth in China base their evaluations on the belief that rapid urbanization is likely to continue because farmers account for about half of the nation's population.

Urbanization's progress, they say, will spur more growth for the service industry, which in turn will increase domestic consumer demand and stimulate more economic expansion.
