Why Babies Are Sold for 1,000 Yuan

A Ministry of Public Security operation covering 14 provinces broke up two gangs trafficking in infants last week, arresting 802 suspects and rescuing 181 children, Xinhua reports.

Among the 168 suspects from the southwestern province of Sichuan, 16 were "producers and traffickers of infants," that is mothers who sold their babies.
