Local Gov'ts to Publicly Release Budgets

(Beijing) – China's cabinet, the State Council, plans to rein in extravagant government expenditures on hospitality, vehicles and overseas trips as part of efforts to address corruption and fraud among officials.

Known as the sangong, or three public expenses, the State Council issued regulations July 9 directed at curbing wasteful spending amid rising public acrimony over a lack of budgetary accountability. Officials found to have excessive expenditures will be subject to penalties, demotion or even dismissal.
