London 2012 Media Watch: After the Medals

Since winning its first Olympic gold in Los Angeles in 1984, China has earned more than 200 gold medals. The second hundred took the country only eight years.

Now that the London Games are over, the Chinese media have taken a look at the country's achievements on the medal table and contemplated what it means to the nation.

While Chinese dominance in table tennis, badminton, diving and gymnastics continued in London, its lackluster performance in team sports, notably soccer, basketball and volleyball, stand out. Even the women's volleyball team, which once stood tall in the world, crashed out in the quarterfinals.
