Beijing Bastards

Rock musician Cui Jian stars in this ambulatory film through the youthful anguish and nihilism at the height of China's reform and opening-up period. Also co-written by Cui Jian, the film takes audiences through the alleyways and dingy nightclubs of Beijing long before the sheen and shine. Directed by Zhang Yuan, a close collaborator of Cui, the film remains officially banned.
