From Tycoon to Target


(Beijing) – A Sichuan tycoon has been charged with a host of gang-related crimes including murder in the latest development of the government's anti-graft campaign. Investigations have shed light on his close business partnership with a former top leader's son, himself caught in a corruption inquiry.

Liu Han, 48, is the chairman of Sichuan Hanlong Group, an investment conglomerate engaging in a wide range of business including energy, mining and hydro power. Out of the business arena, Liu has also received many honors. He was the deputy chairman of the General Chamber of Commerce of the southwestern province of Sichuan, and a three-term delegate to the province's People's Political Consultative Conference, a political advisory body.
