Yunnan Leader Facing Graft Inquiry Survives Suicide Attempt

(Kunming) – A senior leader in the southwestern province of Yunnan has tried to kill himself after apparently coming under investigation for corruption, several sources close to the situation say.

Kong Chuizhu, the vice chairman of the provincial congress' standing committee and a former vice governor, tried to commit suicide in late March, but failed. He is in an intensive care unit of the Armed Police Hospital in Kunming, the capital of the southwestern province of Yunnan.
