Closer Look: Alibaba Singularly Determined to Keep 'Double 11' to Itself

(Beijing) – The country's e-commerce companies have gotten into a war of words over the name for a major online shopping day.

Online shopping has grown hugely popular in China of late, and November 11 every year has become something of a shopping holiday. There's no disputing the fact Alibaba Group started the Shuang Shiyi, or Double 11, promotion in 2009, turning an informal holiday for the country's single people into a reason to shop online.
