Graphics: Capital Clears Roads, Air for APEC

(Beijing) – Beijing is hosting a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation group from November 5 to 11. To clear the streets of traffic and the air of pollution, the city government is giving certain workers extra days off and imposing driving bans based on whether license plates are odd or even. Employees of government departments, institutions and organizations will be off from November 7 to 12, but then have to work on November 2 (a Sunday) and November 15 (a Saturday). Some private companies are also arranging holidays for their employees. A report from the Beijing-based consulting firm Horizon Research Consultancy Group said about half of all workers in Beijing will get a holiday of some sort, but nearly one-fifth of workers were unclear whether they need to head to the office or not.
