Police Presence Lacking at Scene of Shanghai Stampede, Witnesses Say

(Shanghai) — An annual tradition for revelers to count down to the start of the New Year with a dazzling light show turned into a horror in Shanghai.

Hours after a stampede at the most famous scenic spot in downtown Shanghai, the site was almost cleared up. But small items like buttons and broken glasses still could be found on the ground, an indication of the chaos that killed dozens.
