Gov't Efforts to Provide Clean Water for Rural Areas Fall Short

(Beijing) – Ten years after the launch of a nationwide campaign to provide hundreds of millions people with clean drinking water, many residents of China's vast rural areas still lack access to safe drinking water.

On January 29, central government ministries including the Ministry of Water Resources, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the National Health and Family Planning Commission held a meeting to assess efforts to improve water quality in rural areas during an official five-year planning period that ended this year.
