Sichuan Official Goes on Trial over Alleged Textbook Scam

(Beijing) – Several publishers, including two linked to major universities, paid bribes to a senior education official in Sichuan so they could get help selling their textbooks to schools in the southwestern province, court documents show.

The former deputy head of Sichuan's education department, He Shaoyong, and his wife went on trial in the Intermediate People's Court in the provincial capital Chengdu on December 21 on charges of bribery and abuse of power.
