Mainland chips away at Taiwan's dominance in semiconductor business

(Beijing) – Taiwan's semiconductor industry, the world's second-largest in terms of output, is feeling the heat from mainland rivals who are quickly catching up in technology thanks to Beijing's generous support.
Mainland companies made more money selling homegrown chips than their counterparts in Taiwan in the second quarter, a first for local designers who sold 40 billion yuan (US$ 6.00 billion) worth of chips by the end of June, data from the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) showed.
