Here's good news for retail investors: they can now purchase local government bonds at bank counters.
Regulators have allowed commercial banks in the interbank market to include selling local government bonds in their counter business, China’s central bank announced Thursday.
The approval broadens the venues where individual and institutional investors can buy local government debt. Retail investors have already been allowed to purchase such debt on the Shanghai or Shenzhen bourses through a pilot program since July 2017.
