Jack Ma, China’s richest man, has just been revealed to be a member of China’s Communist Party.
You didn’t know? Looks like no one else did either.
Ma himself didn't disclose such information in 2014, when Alibaba went public in New York — though it's not known whether he was a member at the time.
The news, revealed Monday by the People's Daily, comes as a bit of surprise, as Ma and Alibaba are not believed to be as connected to Beijing as many other corporate leaders. In fact, Ma is the only head of the so-called BAT — Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent -- who is not a member of China's annual National People's Congress or the CPPCC.
