Want cheaper booze and cigarettes on that trip to Beijing? You’re in luck.
The city is planning its first downtown duty-free shop for inbound visitors, as it sees an increasing number of foreign travelers, according to Beijing Business Today.
Often located in airports, duty-free shops sell items to inbound or outbound travelers that are exempted from local taxes.
Cao Pengcheng, deputy director of the Beijing municipal culture and tourism bureau, said state-run China Duty Free Group is in talks with Chaoyang district to fix a proper location for the shop. Cao said the facility will house more types of goods with a larger space.
According to the report, inbound visitors to Beijing reached 1.93 million in the first half in 2018, up 3.4% compared to the same period the year before.
