Luxury resort Club Med is back in business – though conducting an internal investigation into its management practices – after several visitors suffered from diarrhea at its property in China’s northeastern city of Harbin.
The Fosun-backed resort operator said last week that eight guests had been diagnosed with norovirus, the most common cause of gastroenteritis, and that 42 had reported symptoms. The operator’s statement came after a guest’s post went viral on Weibo, complaining that resort patrons had fallen ill while on a package deal including food.
Guo Guangchang, chairman of parent company Fosun International, said Saturday that the company had conducted an internal inspection and "would not tolerate any possible management problems of Club Med Yabuli."
An official Club Med statement added that no new symptoms had been reported as of last Wednesday. Club Med Yabuli reopened for business on Friday, Caixin has confirmed.
