Former Interpol President Pleads Guilty to Taking $2 Million Worth Bribes

By Zhao Runhua / Jun 20, 2019 05:43 PM / Business & Tech

China’s former Interpol president Meng Hongwei made his first public appearance since he has been reported missing by his wife last year -- in a court trial

From 2005 to 2017, Meng acquired bribes worth of 14.46 million yuan ($2.11 million), an intermediate court in Tianjin said Thursday, CCTV reported. Meng pleaded guilty, CCTV reported. The court did not announce a final judgment immediately.

China's top prosecutor ordered Meng's arrest in April. In May, a local prosecutor filed charges against Meng for taking a “huge amount” of bribes.
