Tencent-backed online reading platform China Literature is gearing up to expand into the Southeast Asian market through a tie-up with Singtel, Singapore’s largest mobile network operator.

The two companies inked a memorandum of understanding that would allow Singtel app users access to fiction from China Literature’s international fiction service Webnovel, which provides content in English, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

Singtel’s International Group’s CEO Arthur Lang said the company would target “millennials who enjoy user-generated content,” though the memorandum didn’t mention any products tailored for local readers.

Faced with growth pressure and strict content rules at home, China Literature recently announced a partnership with Transsion, the largest Chinese smartphone brand in Africa. Under the partnership, readers in African markets will be able to access China Literature’s stories through pre-installed ebook apps on Transsion handsets.
