Huawei has launched “the world’s most powerful” artificial intelligence (AI) processor and a new AI computing framework, the company announced in a Friday press release.
The processor, called “Ascend 910,” belongs to Huawei’s Ascend-Max chipsets and was first announced at a company event last year. Its maximum power consumption is 310 watts, less than the planned consumption of 350 watts, according to Huawei.
Eric Xu, Huawei’s rotating chairman, said that Ascend 910’s actual performance has beaten the company’s initial expectations.
The Shenzhen-based tech manufacturer also released an AI computing framework called “MindSpore” that supports the development of AI applications.
Huawei said it has already used Ascend 910 to train AI technology on the deep neural network ResNet-50. When combined with MindSpore, Ascend 910 can train AI models twice as fast as other mainstream processors using TensorFlow, Google’s open-source AI framework.
