Shanghai aims to become top world transport hub
Shanghai mapped out an ambitious plan to grow into a world-class international transport hub over the next five years, according to a development plan issued by the municipal government. Under the plan, the city would have the capacity to handle 47 million twenty-foot equivalent container units a year by 2025 and receive more than 130 million flight passengers. The city would be able to process more than 4.1 million tons of cargo at its airports.
MIIT vows to draft regulation for rare earth minerals
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) pledged to accelerate the rollout of regulations to govern the rare earth elements industry as part of its policymaking agenda for the 14th Five-Year Plan. Wang Jiangping, vice minister of the MIIT, said at a recent meeting that the ministry made progress in drafting industrial policies and regulations, including work on formulating rules for the telecommunications and rare earth minerals industries.
Southern Grid 2020 electricity sales up 5.2%
China Southern Power Grid Co. Ltd., one arm of China’s power distribution duopoly, said electricity sales in 2020 reached 1.1 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 5.2%. China-Myanmar refinery produces more than 40 million tons of crude oil
A giant refinery built by PetroChina in southwest China’s Yunnan province to process oil delivered through the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipelines refined more than 40 million tons of crude oil since it started operation in August 2017. The project has an annual capacity to process 13 million tons of crude as PetroChina’s second- largest refinery.
Second unit at the Yangfanggou Hydropower Station starts operation
A second unit started operation at the Yangfanggou Hydropower Station located on the Yalong River — a major national project in Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Sichuan province. The first unit went into operation a week ago. The project is the first 1 million kilowatt hydropower station to be designed and constructed in China. The project is expected to have a total installed capacity of 80 million kilowatts. Upon completion, it will become one of the world’s largest green and clean energy installations.
