The China-Laos railway, the first international rail link project to be led by Beijing, opened for service on Friday, as part of the joint efforts by the two countries to promote economic growth under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

The 1,035-kilometer railway runs from Kunming, Southwest China’s Yunnan province, to the Southeast Asian country’s capital city Vientiane, cuts travel time for passenger trains between the two cities to 10 hours, according to a statement on the website of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.
