Top China Solar Wafer Maker Slashes Prices as Supply Overhang Looms

Longi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd., one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of solar panel equipment, has lowered its silicon wafer prices for the first time in a year and a half, in a move seen potentially helping it boost sales amid widespread predictions for the market to be hit by a looming oversupply problem.

Xi’an-headquartered Longi on Nov. 30 reduced the prices for its 182-millimeter (mm) silicon wafer, 166-mm silicon wafer and 159-mm silicon wafer to 6.2 yuan ($0.97), 5.32 yuan and 5.12 yuan a piece, respectively, according to its website.
