Rural Teacher Out of Contact After Social Media Comments

A rural teacher in central China’s Hunan province is believed to be held by local authorities in a psychiatric hospital after controversy over comments she made on social media. Her disappearance and messages that local officials threatened her set off a public uproar.

Li Tiantian, an elementary school teacher in Yongshun county, is out of contact, several people close to Li said. During the weekend, Li sent messages to her friends asking for help and saying local officials forced her into a mental hospital.
