Xiaohongshu Fined After Reports It Failed to Police Sexually Suggestive Content That Included Minors

Regulators have fined Xiaohongshu 300,000 yuan ($47,300) in the wake of state media reports that the Alibaba-backed social media and e-commerce app failed to prevent users from spreading sexually suggestive content featuring minors.
The penalty, imposed by the cultural and tourism bureau of Shanghai’s Huangpu district, comes as Beijing tightens its oversight of the internet sector over a series of issues like data security, anti-competitive practices as well as content.
