Huawei has consistently denied it plans to make cars itself, but intends to work with other companies.

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. has repeatedly dismissed speculation that it wants to be China’s Tesla challenger. But its deep collaborations with automakers may justify such speculation, industry insiders say.

Since April, Huawei has established partnerships with automakers BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology Co. Ltd. (600733.SH), Chongqing Sokon Industry Group Co. Ltd. (601127.SH), Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. Ltd. (000625.SZ) and GAC Group (601238.SH) to help them build sub-brands by using Huawei’s autonomous driving technology.
