Fresh Monkeypox Cases Appear in U.S., Europe and Australia

(Bloomberg) — New and suspected cases of monkeypox have cropped up in New York City, Sweden, Canada and the two biggest cities in Australia in recent days, signaling that the rare and potentially deadly cousin of the smallpox virus is now seeded around the globe.
The pathogen has been traditionally confined to regions in Africa. Scientists are hunting for links between the scattered infections that have been emerging in the northern hemisphere for about two weeks. The virus typically causes flu-like symptoms followed by a rash that often starts on the face and spreads down the body. The illness often lasts two weeks to a month.
