Lockdowns Spread Across China’s Tropical Hainan Province

South China’s tropical Hainan province, one of the country’s most popular tourism destinations, has imposed large-scale lockdowns to contain a Covid-19 outbreak that’s grown to over 1,800 infections.
As of Tuesday morning, at least 11 cities and counties in Hainan with a total population of over 8 million, had adopted “whole-area static management”— barring all residents from leaving their homes unless necessary — to get a grip on their rising caseloads, according to reports from state broadcaster CCTV that cited local authorities.
