The U.S. has been getting a smaller share of its imports from China since the start of the trade war in 2018, and the situation has been further aggravated by Washington’s decoupling policies in recent years.

Southeast Asia, South Asia and Central America, with their advantages in labor and production costs, have been the regions that have most benefited from the U.S. shifting purchases away from China, particularly of labor-intensive goods like apparel and footwear.
