China’s Unitree Robotics has unveiled a wall-smashing robot designed for civilian transport, as the company strives to commercialize futuristic robotics amid China’s humanoid robot boom.
The company unveiled the GD01 in a promotional video on Tuesday, which it claims is the world’s first production-ready “mecha” — a science-fiction term for a manned or sentient machine. The half-ton robot features a chest-mounted cockpit for a human operator, can walk on two legs, switch into a four-legged crawling mode and smash cinderblock wall. It has a starting price of $650,000.
