Multiple Ex-County Officials Detained for Hiding Bodies After Deadly Mine Flood

Authorities in northern China have arrested, detained or taken other measures against more than 20 people involved in a deadly mine flood, including several former county officials who were detained for false reporting and hiding most of the bodies.
In early September, a flood at the iron ore mine in Qianxi county in Tangshan, the country’s largest steel producing city, killed 14 people and left another person missing, state media reported at the time.
