Update: China Adds Vladivostok as Transit Hub for Domestic Shipments From Northeast Province
Listen to the full version

What’s new: Starting on the first day of June, goods shipped from northeastern China’s Jilin province to domestic destinations can travel through the port in Vladivostok, according to a recent General Administration of Customs announcement.
Vladivostok, a city in Russia’s far east, has the country’s largest port on the Pacific Ocean.
Since last year, China-Russia trade has surged amid Western sanctions on the European country due to its invasion of Ukraine. This has led to an increase in the overall capacity of container ships from China’s southeast coast to Vladivostok, and these ships can also carry more cargo on the return journey. Under this circumstance, Jilin last year applied to the State Council to add Vladivostok as a transit port.
