Chinese fast-fashion giant Shein Group Ltd. is gearing up to compete head-to-head with rival online retailer PDD Holdings Inc.’s overseas platform Temu.

Shein said May 4 that it will launch a marketplace in the U.S. after its platform went online in Brazil. It’s testing a similar marketplace in Mexico.

Shein started in 2012 as an online-only retailer of inexpensive clothes, beauty and lifestyle products. The Nanjing-based company operates almost solely for export and says it ships to more than 220 countries and regions. Since 2022, the retailer started to expand its merchandize categories and transform itself into a platform model.
