China’s Capital to Subsidize Select Reproductive Treatments as National Population Shrinks

What’s new: The city of Beijing will include more than a dozen assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments in its health care insurance system, becoming one of the first areas in the country to pilot such a policy, as China seeks to stem an ageing and shrinking population.
From July 1, a total of 16 therapeutical fertility services including in-vitro fertilization, embryo transfer and ovulation testing will be reimbursed at 16 eligible medical institutions in the capital, according to a document released last week by Beijing Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau.
