Wang Jisi, a professor specializing in U.S. studies at Peking University, says China-U.S. relations may improve moderately in the near term though major issues between both sides remain.

China-U.S. relations are unlikely to improve significantly anytime soon as the two powers still view one another as their greatest external threat, said Wang Jisi, a professor specializing in U.S. studies at Peking University.

However, modest improvements in bilateral relations are expected due to resumption of high-level engagements between the two governments, Wang said at the 11th World Peace Forum organized by Tsinghua University in Beijing on Monday.
