China shouldn’t let its energy security concerns overly impede achieving its climate goals, according to the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Policymakers in the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases should reconsider whether making so many additional large-scale coal-fired power investments is worthwhile in light of the generally low utilization rates, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol told Caixin in an interview on Wednesday in Beijing.
