More and more graduates in China have struggled to land a job in recent years, official data show, with two in every three unemployed young people in urban areas in 2021 holding at least an associate degree.
That year, more than 70% of jobless Chinese urbanites aged 16 to 24 had a degree from a higher education institution, and over 42% had earned a bachelor’s degree or above, according to government data compiled by the Institute of Finance and Banking, part of state-backed think tank the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
