An audit by Hainan province has revealed how some temporary medical facilities and other resources used to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and worth hundreds of millions of yuan have been abandoned, illustrating the headache faced by many of China’s local governments on what to do with them.

Equipment, materials and supplies were damaged after being left out in the open and exposed to the elements after the dismantling of nine makeshift hospitals, while nucleic acid testing booths and isolation wards were left unused, said Liu Jinsong, director of the Department of Auditing of Hainan Province.
