Listen to the full version
China’s national surveyed urban unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 5.3% in July, according to the latest official data. But the rate for 16- to 24-year-olds, which hit a record high of 21.3% in June, was absent from the recent data dump.
The July surveyed unemployment rate for urban dwellers climbed 0.1 of a percentage point from the previous month, the first increase since February, data released Tuesday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show. The indicator counts people at or above the age of 16 who are jobless but have sought work in the past three months and can start working within two weeks if hired.
