Like his father Hun Sen, Hun Manet moved into politics after a career in Cambodia’s military. But the country’s new prime minister also spent a decade studying in the West, which has observers asking whether Hun Manet will follow in his father’s footsteps, or will he try to strike a balance between continuity and reform?

In his inaugural speech as Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet laid out five guarantees the nation “must ensure,” with the emphasis on protection of peace and stability as well as sovereignty and territorial integrity.
