Guangzhou ditches homebuying curbs for some districts to boost sales
Guangzhou became the first of China’s four top-tier cities to scrap homebuying curbs in some districts, intensifying efforts to support housing sales after previous measures failed to meaningfully revive the market.
The capital of Guangdong province said Wednesday that limits on the number of homes a household can buy no longer apply to five of the city’s 11 districts and some parts of Baiyun district where the airport is located. For the past few years, a household with a Guangzhou registration, or hukou (户口), could buy a maximum of two residential properties, while a qualified household without a local registration could buy only one.
