The U.S. Ambassador to China applauded the latest engagement between top Chinese officials including President Xi Jinping and a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Senate, describing the high-level discussions as “substantive, productive, frank and honest.”

The comment came after six U.S. senators, led by Majority Leader Charles Schumer, met with Xi on Monday in Beijing, where they also spoke to Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and chairman of the country’s top legislature Zhao Leji.
