Widely known sports media personality Duan Xuan, a former soccer commentator for state broadcaster CCTV, has disappeared from public view for the last several months, and industry insiders told Caixin that he is linked to a bribery case involving a former official in charge of the country’s Olympics 2022 preparations.

Duan is accused of bribing Liu Aijie, a former director of the Preparation Office for the Olympic Games of the General Administration of Sport (GAS). Duan was seeking to take on cross-sport talent recruitment work and enjoy related benefits tied to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, according to a person familiar with the matter.
