Fraud Syndicate Leader in Myanmar May Have Faked His Chinese Residency, Sources Say

One of two leaders wanted by Chinese police for running a cross-border telecom fraud syndicate out of northern Myanmar may have illegally obtained his Chinese mainland identity card by falsifying household registration information, Caixin has learned.
Questions have been raised about the men’s nationality after the Ministry of Public Security issued a wanted notice for them last week, which mentioned that they had official positions in the Myanmar autonomous region of Wa State but also held Chinese ID cards showing they have household registration, or “hukou,” in Yunnan and Guangdong provinces, respectively.
