Official buildings as well as border control points in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) flew their flags at half-staff Thursday in a show of respect for former Premier Li Keqiang whose remains were scheduled for cremation in Beijing the same day.

HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee expressed his deep condolences over Li’s death last week during a media event, where he highlighted that Li cared deeply about Hong Kong and its people.
