Beijing and other parts of China are battling a surge in respiratory infections, with sick children filling some hospitals to capacity and a lack of nucleic acid kits hampering accurate diagnosis and treatment, Caixin has learned.

Hospitals in parts of China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan and Guangzhou, have recorded a surge in mycoplasma pneumoniae infections over the past few months, according to media reports and doctors Caixin spoke to. In the capital in particular, some children’s hospitals and pediatric departments are close to capacity — if not already full — due to the surge, Caixin has learned.
