Zijin’s Papua New Guinea Gold Mine to Reopen After Leasing Right Dispute Resolved

What’s new: A gold mine in Papua New Guinea owned by a joint venture between Chinese Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd. and Canadian Barrick Gold Corp. is set to restart operations on Dec. 22 after three years of legal battle with the local government.
Zijin Mining said the Porgera gold mine is expected to produce an average of 21 tons of gold a year, with the first gold expected to be poured in the first quarter of 2024.
